One of the common issues with the MZR motor is the weak OEM VVT Actuator. These are known for going out and Mazda has revised the OEM VVT actuator to make it stronger and keep it from failing.
How can you tell if your VVT Actuator is failing?
You will hear a rattle on start up coming from the passenger side of the motor.
What's happening is the actuator can't hold oil pressure and therefore it can't take up the slack in the chain and allows it to hit the timing cover. This is the first sign that your VVT Actuator is going out and you will need to replace it quickly. If the car slips timing, pistons will meet valves and you will be left looking for a new motor.

Great kit, everything needed to do your vvt swap, replace your chain and other bits. **** one suggestion to edge***** the kit includes 3 friction washers for the crank,and new crank bolt. 9/10 times people are NOT going to replace the last friction washer behind the oil pump sprocket. The kit only contains 1 cam sprocket washer for the vvt. Maybe offer a choice to the customer to delete one crank washer and add a cam sprocket washer to loosen the exhaust cam. EDGE had this kit to me in 1 day!!!! i paid the small fee to bump the shipping but still, 12 hours to ship from the mid west/west to florida! OUTSTANDING! EDGE is KILLER! thanks guys....rocking the EDGE sticker too lol
