STRATIFIED X4tra Fuel System - EcoBoost 2.0L/2.3L
The X4tra Fuel System is a 4-port auxiliary fueling solution built for the Ford 2.0L and 2.3L EcoBoost engine family, including the Focus ST, Focus RS, and EcoBoost Mustang. It's designed to work alongside the factory direct-injection system, adding the extra fuel volume these engines need once power levels climb past what the OEM setup can safely handle.
Why Auxiliary Fueling Matters on the EcoBoost
The stock direct-injection (DI) fuel system on the 2.0/2.3 EcoBoost starts to run into trouble around 375 whp. The high-pressure fuel pump (HPFP) is usually the first weak point, followed by the injectors themselves. When either falls behind, the engine can lean out under load, which is a real risk on a built motor with a bigger turbo. Since upgraded HPFP options are limited or unavailable for these engines, adding a supplemental port injection system is one of the more practical ways to keep fueling in check at higher horsepower.
Port injection also tends to offer better atomization and metering than a water-methanol setup, and as a side benefit, it helps keep the intake valves cleaner over time compared to running DI alone.
How the 4-Port Design Works
This system builds on Stratified's earlier 2-port design by injecting into all four cylinders individually rather than relying on fewer injection points. The injectors are angled toward the cylinder head with a split-spray pattern, aiming for more even fuel distribution across each intake valve. The spacer ports are also angle-matched to the factory intake manifold and cylinder head to keep airflow transitions smooth, which helps with both mixture quality and minimizing flow losses.
