One of the common issues with the MZR motor is the weak OEM VVT Actuator. These are known for going out and Mazda has revised the OEM VVT actuator to make it stronger and keep it from failing.
How can you tell if your VVT Actuator is failing?
You will hear a rattle on start up coming from the passenger side of the motor.
What's happening is the actuator can't hold oil pressure and therefore it can't take up the slack in the chain and allows it to hit the timing cover. This is the first sign that your VVT Actuator is going out and you will need to replace it quickly. If the car slips timing, pistons will meet valves and you will be left looking for a new motor.

Great kit
It's a nice kit that comes with just about everything you need. I do wish it came with a few other items though, like most importantly another cam friction washer and cam bolt for the exhaust side. That way you could loosen that one up to assist in taking up the slack in the chain. Another good addition to this kit would be new oil pump guide and tensioner. I mean you are already in there and they have to be removed, might as well replace them. Lastly a step by step instruction manual would be nice but that's a bit of a stretch. Otherwise it's a good kit. The guys at edge are super knowledgeable and their help when ordering was fantastic. I'll definitely be returning for further purchases in the future.

Great Kit
Good OEM kit. It would be good to add a next camshaft bolt and camshaft washer. For which this seems to be the main problem for my issue was the exhaust cam shifted.

Great Kit!!
This kit did everything as advertised. I selected the timing tool option and it worked well. All parts were genuine Mazda (except for the accessory belt which seems to be of good quality none the less). My one small gripe is that the kit does not include the "O"-ring for the high pressure fuel pump. Mazda does recommend replacing this when removing the pump. I didn't replace mine as it was not torn, but it would make the kit more complete if it was included. Otherwise, all of the parts were great, and the horrible rattling noise on start-up is gone!

What a BLESSING!!! (2008 MSP3)
For months I have been dealing with this horrible rattle from my VVT and was unable to fix it due to such a high price from the dealer! Perfect Kit
Ordered this kit to get rid of my Mazdaspeed6's start up chain rattling problem. It was an immediate fix! Recommend a dealership do this part, I know people who have worked on cars for 20+ years, and said they will never do a VVT. But the dealership said this kit was a complete set up. They didn't need any extra parts, no extra tools, and it was a simple and easy install. They were actually impressed.
