The Civic Type R, known for showcasing Honda's maximum potential on the compact chassis, has a rich history of performance excellence. The FK8, making its way across the Pacific Ocean, brought Honda's hottest hatchback to the States. While the CTR is already a standout, being a mass-produced car means there's room for improvement, especially in the intake system. Fortunately, the OEM engineers provided a solid foundation by attaching an aluminum runner from the turbo to the induction boot, allowing us to focus on enhancing the end of the runner.
We kicked things off by replacing the turbulence-generating, accordion-styled intake hose with a superior alternative. Our new hose is crafted from 5 layers of silicone embedded with heat-resistant fibers, reinforced with steel wire to maintain shape under the K20C1's impressive boost. Strengthening the intake boot, we also increased the diameter and smoothed out the interior, resulting in a remarkable 42-percent increase in flow throughout the entire system.
Contributing to the airflow increase are our precision-adjusted MAF housing and improved airbox. We separated the two and redesigned the MAF housing for increased flow while retaining safe fuel trim parameters and ensuring a check engine light-free experience on the stock tune. The airbox, now larger to accommodate our freer-flowing filter, retains the factory rubber snorkel, securing the dedicated intake channel incorporated in the CTR's hood. These improvements collectively unlock a max gain of 16.7 whp and 20.1 wtq from your 2.0T.
